***There will be spoilers in the discussion, so perhaps better not to attend if you are halfway through or thinking of reading it.*** 9-12s Book Club Thursday 14th July 4.30 p.m Little Lord Faunterloy Frances Hodges Burnett (Please click "Continue" and "Check Next Availability" to book - as the date is a way ahead it doesn't show up straight away) An orphan with a good heart is summoned by a mysterious stranger to enjoy a very different life; the author makes a fortune, there's a stage version... Not Harry Potter, but Little Lord Faunterloy, the hero of this rags-to-riches story of a humble American boy who discovers he is next-in-line to be the Earl of Denoncourt and is whisked off to live in luxury with his stern grandpa. Written in 1885, it's a classic that even spawned its own must-have line in boys' fashion! It gives an insight into the times, and into a genre of writing that has almost disappeared, "sentimental fiction" Some editions have ghastly small print - Vintage does a good one.
