The Artists' Studio
Mondays 4:30pm
The Artists' Studio Step into The Artists' Studio, an interactive online course that unlocks the essentials of artistic creation, guiding you through the visual elements that underpin the world’s most celebrated art. Across five hands-on sessions, you’ll explore a range of styles and techniques inspired by famous art movements—from classical to conceptual. With simple materials like pencils, paper, colours, and found objects, each session introduces you to the core ingredients of art, from line and shape to tone, colour, and texture. In the first session, you’ll get grounded in the basics of classical art, learning the “ingredients” that all artists use to bring their ideas to life. Next, dive into bold colours and shapes as you create your own comic strip in the spirit of Pop Art, then journey through the swirls and textures of Impressionism with Van Gogh-inspired pieces. In session four, experiment with vibrant collages influenced by contemporary artists like Jeff Koons, and wrap up with a deep dive into conceptual art, where you’ll combine all you’ve learned to create art with meaning and message. Whether you’re just beginning or looking to expand your skills, The Artists' Studio offers a supportive space to create, experiment, and connect with the world of art. You can choose the materials you use and won’t need any fancy art supplies, just paper, pencils and your preferred way of creating lines and colour on paper. But of course if you want to use oil paints on sheep or some other unusual medium, you’re welcome to. Your host is Carl Smith, who some of you have met on the Weekenders. Here he is inhis own words. "I am Carl! I build fires, create art and craft stories. I have been working in education on and off for the last decade as teaching is my passion. I started my journey as a Forest Activity Ranger where I gained my love of working in the great outdoors. I studied Fine Art at the University of Derby and gained degrees at both Bachelors and Masters level. My main focuses were performance art and film making. I went on to gain my QTS as an art teacher for secondary school working with both mainstream and SEND pupils. I have since become a level 3 Forest School Leader and specialise in teaching survival skills and outdoor crafts. I have a deep love for fantasy and science fiction. My favourite books are by Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett. I am a Whovian to my core and I love playing DnD both as Dungeon Master and as a player."
