Privacy Policy (for students)

This explains what we know about you and why.

This is a plain-English version of our full Privacy Policy, written for children and young people. If you want the complete, detailed version, you can find that on our website too, or ask a parent, carer or one of our staff.

Who are we?

We're Education Without. We run classes, clubs and events for children and young people, both online and in person.

​

What do we know about you?

Depending on what you're doing with us, we might know things like:

  • Your name, age and address

  • The class or activity you're in

  • How to contact your parent or carer

  • Anything we need to know to keep you safe - like allergies, medical needs, or if you need extra support

  • Messages between you and your tutor

  • Sometimes photos, but only in the ways explained below

 

We only ask for what we actually need - we're not trying to collect everything about you.

Why do we know this stuff?

Mainly so we can:

  • Put you in the right group

  • Run activities safely

  • Get hold of your parent or carer if something happens

  • Help you take part fully, including any extra support you need

  • Keep you and everyone else safe

  • Deal with emergencies

 

Who might we tell?

Usually just the people who need to know to run the activity - your tutor, our booking system, the venue. If we're ever worried about your safety, we might need to tell people whose job it is to help, like social services or the police. We wouldn't do this to get you in trouble - it's to protect you.

Photos and videos - in person

At in-person and residential activities, we often take photos or short videos during sessions - you'll usually see us doing it, and it's a normal part of what we do.

When you (or your parent/carer) registered for the activity, there was a question about photo permission on the form. That's what decides how your photo is used:

  • If permission was given, we might use a photo or video showing your face, for example on our website or in a newsletter.

  • If permission wasn't given, we might still take the photo or video, but we cover your face in pictures, and we don't use footage you're in.

 

If you see us taking a photo and want a copy with your face showing, just ask us afterwards - we're often happy to give you your own copy as a keepsake, separately from anything we publish.

If you or your parent/carer change your mind later about a photo being used, tell us and we'll sort it.

Photos and videos - online classes

We don't record online classes, and you're not allowed to take screenshots, photos or recordings during them either — that goes for everyone, including tutors. This is so people can speak freely and feel safe online.

Do you sell my information?

No. Never.

​

How long do you keep it?

Only as long as we actually need it. Some things (like safety records) might need to be kept longer, but we don't keep things “just in case” forever.

What if I don't want to share something?

You don't have to tell a class more than you're comfortable with. If something's private, you can just say so.

What are my rights?

This is your information, so you have rights over it

You can:

  • Ask what we know about you

  • Ask us to correct something that's wrong

  • Ask us to delete something

  • Ask us to stop using it in a certain way

 

Who do I talk to if I'm worried?

You can talk to:

You won't be in trouble for asking.
