Debate Club Age 9 to 11

Debating could be described as play- fighting for the mind! We use www.debateplanet.co.uk one of Jason's other enterprises, the largest collection of motions to debate ever compiled (over 4000 now!), from the desirability of meeting aliens, whether freedom of speech entails a right to offend, or whether toddlers are tyrants. Debating is often seen as rather exclusive, but we're not in the business of creating an army of mini Boris Johnsons. Our take on debating has evolved with participants and it's both more thoughtful and more playful than the debate formats used in competitions. Plus, there's "the fence" - an opportunity for those who don't feel like arguing for or against on a particular motion to speak in both directions, ask questions and essentially freestyle around the subject. Great for developing confidence and skill as a speaker and thinker.
